The construction of the plant took one and a half years, the investment for the coating line with a length of 280 m, 27 m width and 25 m height amounted to 70 million Euro. In future, up to 490 vehicles per day will receive a colored base coat and the final clear coat on two parallel lines. The ergonomics of the workplaces were overall improved in the new building. In addition, the entire facility is designed to be barrier-free, which means that people in wheelchairs can now also work in the facility.
The coating is applied in an electrostatic high-speed rotation process. This method is very material-saving and reduces the consumption of vehicle paint by 60 tons per year. In addition, 80% circulating air is used instead of the previously used 100% fresh air. This saves a total of up to 25,000 megawatts per year. VWN Hannover now uses a cardboard filter separation of the overspray in the topcoat plant. By this, VWN makes the use of 3,400 m3 of fresh water unnecessary. The paint structure on the body has also been revised. Innovative technologies make it possible to refrain from applying a filler during the painting process. This means that 600 kg of fillers are no longer required – per working day. The final step in the process, quality assurance, has also been optimized. Sensitive sensors automatically measure coating thickness, color tone and paint structure.
