The core of the factory conversion is the construction of a new, almost 50,000 square meter assembly hall, in which only e-vehicles will be assembled. In addition, the press shop and body shop will be enlarged by 23,000 square meters, the paint shop will be modernized and a new „bi-color hall“ of 6,000 square meters will be added for painting the vehicle roofs in black. Bi-color painting is one of the hallmarks of the ID. family. In addition, a new high-bay warehouse and an automated small parts warehouse are planned. The new all-electric compact SUV ID.4 is scheduled to be built there from 2022, with further all-electric models to following at a later date. Production of the Passat saloon and Variant, Arteon models and the new Shooting Brake variant will continue for a transitional period of several years. In the final expansion stage, the technical production capacity at the site is designed for up to 300,000 electric vehicles. Completion of the buildings is expected for summer 2021.
