Automated finishing for automotive plastic parts

Plastic parts are often painted using conventional spray guns. This was previously the case at Valeo, an international automotive supplier. However, with rising prices for materials and cleaning, the use of high-rotation atomisers is becoming increasingly profitable. Valeo therefore now relies on Dürr technology in its production.

The „EcoBell“ technology is now being used at its site in Hungary. The high-rotation atomiser is mounted on a painting robot from Kawasaki and paints plastic interiors for electric vehicles.

From the paint supply to the application, the entire equipment comes from Dürr. This includes an „EcoPump-AD“ package, a fluid board, a two-component mixing and dosing system and the high-rotation atomiser without high voltage. Thanks to the higher efficiency, Valeo can both increase productivity and reduce paint consumption.

Before the changeover, Dürr was able to prove in tests in cooperation with ERMA Lab that the technology can also be used for plastic coating. The „EcoBell“ impresses with its excellent coating quality and, ultimately, its cost-effectiveness. In mathematical terms, Valeo will achieve approximate paint savings of 40%.
