Drying aircraft assemblies efficiently
The company approached HiTec Spray and Excelitas Noblelight with this request. HiTec Spray specializes in equipment for application and fluid handling, while Excelitas Noblelight specializes in drying and curing with infrared emitters.
For safety reasons, aircraft wheels are sent back to the suppliers for overhaul and stress fracture testing after a certain number of take-offs and landings. The work to be carried out often includes new tires and brakes as well as repainting the wheels and brakes.
Excelitas Noblelight carried out tests with the customer to dry the new paintwork. The result of the tests is a 116 kW system with medium wave infrared emitters and three individual 38.5 kW heating stations. This setup reduced the original curing time by over 75% and resulted in a high quality finish and material savings on the paint.
