Painting technology at a new level
In 2020, Superior Industries Production Germany GmbH received approval to upgrade its painting facility for the organic coating of wheels.
The project essentially involves the construction of a paint shop that includes the following components: A pre-treatment plant for degreasing, staining and the targeted creation of a protective oxide layer on the wheel surface, three automatic powder coating booths, a powder oven and three automatic spray booths for solvent-based single-component paint systems. The project also includes two flash-off zones, a paint dryer, three cooling zones and a regenerative thermal afterburner for the effluents from the spray booths, flash-off zones, paint dryer and powder oven, as well as a wastewater treatment plant. In addition, various storage facilities for the anti-corrosion agents are planned. The plant is to be operated in three shifts, seven days a week. According to the responsible authority, the start of operations is planned for summer 2021. Once the new paint shop has been fully commissioned, the existing paint shop will be decommissioned and dismantled.
